I am a member of an association outside of Nova Scotia. Can I transfer my membership to MTANS?

Membership is not transferable from association to association so applicants must follow our provincial exam process.

Since last year, MTANS has adopted an exam process much like the regulated provinces of Ontario, Newfoundland and BC. Successful completion of the OSCE and MCQ is a requirement of membership. If you are a member of Ontario, Newfoundland or BC, then your exam results from your province of membership would be accepted by MTANS.

I wrote exams in Alberta. Are they acceptable to MTANS?

MTAA is a provincial association, like MTANS, under the umbrella of the Massage Therapists Alliance of Canada. We have the same standard of 2200 hour diploma programs, so unless you were grandfathered into the MTAA, your education is acceptable to us since it was acceptable to the MTAA.

Unfortunately, association exams in Alberta are not acceptable in Nova Scotia. We only accept successful exams from the regulated provinces.

You would have to complete the OSCE and MCQ in order to complete the process. Information on the exams can be found on our website at www.mtans.com.

I do not have a 2200 hour diploma from an approved Massage Therapy School. Can I still join MTANS?

This type of situation needs to be addressed on a case by case basis. If you would like you can submit your request, in writing, to the Education Standards Committee and they will evaluate your skills and training to see if they would allow you membership. It would be best to include any supporting documents, especially pertaining to curriculum/education etc. You must satisfy that your educational qualifications are substantially equivalent to the aforementioned 2200 hour minimum standard. A non-refundable application fee of $35.00 is also required.
